About 100 killed in clashes between police and Tibetan protesters
Dharamshala, Mar 15 (UNI) Tibetan Government-in-Exile today claimed that unconfirmed reports received here stated that about 100 people had been killed in clashes between the police and the Tibetan people in Lhasa where martial law has been imposed.
''Unconfirmed reports say that about 100 people have been killed and martial law imposed in Lhasa following clashes between the Tibetans and the Chinese police,'' the government-in-exile said in a release here.
The government urged the United Nations (UN) to intervene and pressurise the Chinese Government to end ''human rights violations'' in the country following the protests.
Observing that the Tibetan Government was concerned over reports being received from Tibet, it said apart from the killings several hundred have been injured and arrested for continuing with their peaceful protests.
Meanwhile, monks, nuns and Tibetan protesters held protest march here today following violence in China.
They also held a candle light procession last evening to mark their protest against the continuous occupation of Tibet by China and mark the 49th anniversary of an uprising against Chinese rule and to press for their demand for independence ahead of the Beijing Olympics.
