Mysore Scion expresses concern over dumping of Chinese Silk
Bangalore, Mar 11 (UNI) Expressing deep concern over unabated dumping of Chinese silk into India, Senior Congress leader and last scion of Mysore Royal family Srikantadatta Narasimharaja Wadiyar today opined that it can only be halted by popularaising more and more use of Indian silk yarn and textures.
Addressing newspersons here, Mr Wadiyar, who himself taking lead to popularise Indian variant silk products through his exclusive design house 'The Royal House of Mysore' for the past five years, said that invasion of Chinese Silk yarn had already killed the industry in Thailand, Myanmar and some of the European countries.
Stating that Indian Silk yarn was of unique quality with smooth and wearing its materials bring warmth in contrary to Chinese Silk, Mr Wadiyar said that unlike China's product silk grown in different parts of the country brings its own brand and richness. "This varied nature of Indian silk and uniqueness needs to be nurtured and popularised for the generations to come" he said.
Stating that in a bid to promote the brand of the uniqueness of Mysore silk he has launched design house 'The Royal House of Mysore' and so far over 300 variants of silken ready-to-wear garments, in variant lines has been launched.
Mr Wadiyar said that 'The Royal House of Mysore' graduated into one of Karnataka's leading design houses was presenting three collections annually using silks produced in Karnataka also launched new collection today designed by himself and his wife Pramodadevi Wadiyar 'The Princess Royale' on the occasion. The new collection was designed specially for the princess of modern days, which comes with rich jewel tonned silks, lavish embroideries woven to present a regal view, he said.
He said that the exclusive designs were inspired from the mythological Hindu puranic texts, manuscripts, historical motifs, miniature paintings, Indo Aryan and Indo European motifs which continues to hold a futuristic appeal with its colorful Indian attires.
He said that the specially designed Karnataka Silk products designed from the Royal House of Mysore are made available at the Mysore Palace and Bangalore palace. "There is also plans to launch the brand online with transactions made possible under a quick delivery model" he added.
