Karunanidhi extends financial aid to 32 people

Chennai, Mar 11 (UNI) Tamil Nadu Chief Minister and DMK President M Karunanidhi today distributed an assistance of Rs 3.20 lakh to 32 people for their medical and educational expenses.

Mr Karunanidhi, who had started Kalaignar Karunanidhi Trust with his own fund of Rs five crore, had been giving financial assistance to the poor every month from the interest accrued from the fund since November 2005.

After donating Rs one crore for setting up a permanent book fair venue, he had been donating the interest from Rs four crore as assistance to the poor since February last.

Accordingly, from the interest accrued in February, Mr Karunanidhi distributed an assistance of Rs 10,000 each to 32 people from various parts of the State, a party release here said.

Since November 2005, the DMK President had distributed a total assistance of Rs 76.65 lakh, the release said.
