Govt to explore linking of Uttrala-Holi through tunnel

Shimla, Mar 10 (UNI) Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Prem Kumar Dhumal today said the State Government would explore the possibility of constructing an all weather tunnel to connect Uttrala and Holi areas dominated by the Gaddi community of Kangra and Chamba districts.

The survey would be conducted and construction undertaken on priority basis, he said while addressing the closing ceremony of the five-day State level Shivratri Mahotsav at Baijnath in Kangra district.

The Chief Minister said the State was also the land of warriors since it had provided a large number of brave soldiers, who brought laurels to Himachal Pradesh and the nation.

He said the Government was committed to preserve the rich heritage of the State in order to make the coming generation proud of its culture.

Mr Dhumal said the services of the experts would be requisitioned to undertake the Uttrala-Holi tunnel project so that detailed project report was prepared and adequate budgetary provisions were made to execute the project on priority.

He said the tunneling would help in integrating the people of these areas.

The Chief Minister said the Government had accorded top priority to roads, education and health sectors while self employment, self-reliance and prosperity of every family had been added to the priority list by the present Government.

He said generation of vast employment avenues had been accorded priority by the State Government in its budgetary provisions for the coming financial year of 2008-09.

Mr Dhumal said the Government would maintain transparency and honour merit in carrying out recruitment process.
