Need to open emergency and critical care facilities in all districts

Bhubaneswar, Mar 08 (UNI) Orissa Governor M C Bhandare today said emergency and critical care facilities should be expanded to all major hospitals in every district to provide timely treatment to the needy patients.

Inaugurating a two-day International conference on Emergency and Critical care organised by private sector Ayush hospital in association with the AOC International, UK, the Governor said though the state had three government and private medical colleges and a couple of private hospitals of repute, the scope of critical care for needy patients was limited only to a few hospitals.

Mr Bhandare said the state capital was now witnessing a transformation in health care services with many reputed corporate tertiary health care institutions setting up their own hospitals.

He said the corporate hospitals should play an important role in providing critical care to patients and prevent untimely death of patients due to want of sophisticated life support measures.

The corporate hospitals should fulfil their duties towards the society by visiting the rural areas with their specialists to provide better treatment for them.

The doctors should update their professional knowledge and keep abreast of the latest advances in the field, he said.

Speaking on the occasion Health Commissioner of the UK Khursid Alam said in this age of high technology the medical professionals should share their expertise to improve the health care system and expand the latest in medicare facilities to more people.

It would help the latest advances in medicare system reach a larger section, he added.
