13 meningitis deaths in Delhi this year

New Delhi, Mar 7 (UNI) With 13 meningitis deaths being reported in the capital this year, the Delhi Government today said all preventive steps are been taken to check the spread of the disease.

Health Minister Yoganand Shastri, who chaired a meeting on water and vector borne diseases, said health officials of the Government, MCD, New Delhi Municipal Corporation and Delhi Cantonment Board were instructed to remain vigilant during the next months keeping in view due spread of Meningitis and other respiratory ailments.

Dr Shastri said so far this year, a total of 74 meningitis cases were reported in Delhi out of which 13 people had died.

Six cases were from the capital and 7 from the neighboring states, he added.

All hospitals have been supplied vaccines and public awareness programmes launched.

The Health Minister said Government Hospitals have been asked to take all preventive measures and report the cases.

He also instructed the Health officials to take all the necessary measures to check Dengue, distribute chlorine tablets and restrict the sale of open fruits and sugarcane juice.
