Five more arrested in University student gang rape case

Sambalpur, Mar 4 (UNI) The Sambalpur and Kalahandi police have arrested five more people in connection with the gangrape of a first year MCA student of Sambalpur University.

Sources said while Sambalpur police have arrested four criminals from Budharaja area of the town involved in the crime, the Kesinga police under Kalahandi district arrested one Sachin Sharma in connection with this case.

Police said with the arrest of five criminals, the total arrest in connection with the gang rape incident rose to nine. The student was gangraped on February 23 last.

Three of the arrested criminals from the town were identified as Bulu Patnaik, Balram Gaur and Pintu Soren while the name of the fourth accused is yet to be identified. .

Police further said Sachin Sharma after committing the crime fled away to Kesinga to evade police action but acting on a tip off, police arrested him from the house of one Kamal Lochan Sahu of Kesinga.

A police team has rushed for Kesinga to bring back Sharma to Sambalpur for further interrogation.
