Milk Producers Assn resorts to road roko

Ariyalur, Feb 29 (UNI) Tension prevailed for about two hours in Ariyalur town as the members of the Tamil Nadu Milk Producers Association and also the Tamil Nadu Milk Producers Cooperative Societies employees led by their State President Sengottuvel resorted to road roko agitations today.

According to police, the agitators also laid siege at the Collectorate protesting against the non-availability of the district Collector Xavier Chriso Nayagam to receive memorandum from the agitators both at his office as well as at the camp office.

Despite of their agitation there was no response from the district administration and so the agitators resorted to road roko, police said.

Realising the situation Mr Nayagam finally turned up at the Collectorate and received memorandum from the agitators.

Their demands included higher procurement price for milk, election for milk cooperatives and regularisation of the services of milk producers cooperative society employees.

Though they got official appointment from the district collector yesterday for submitting the memorandum, the Collector's attitude of not giving audience for them was highly condemnable.

They urged Chief Minister M Karunanidhi to intervene into their long pending demands and solve the same.
