Cong Minister's brother arrested in Meghalaya
Shillong, Feb 28 (UNI) Meghalaya police have arrested a sibling of Congress minister Manirul Islam Sarkar for orchestrating an attack on the convoy of Independent candidate Abu Tahel Mondol recently, police said today.
According to them, the incident occurred last week at Phulbari area, when a group of suspected Congress workers, allegedly led by the Minister's brother Rohibul Islam Sarkar, threw stones at Mr Mondol's vehicle.
The Minister's brother was identified by Mr Mondol's supporters who were in the vehicle when the incident occurred.
Rohibul Islam had been absconding since that incident but police officials managed to trace him from Phulbari area on February 27 and brought him to Tura in West Garo Hills district under arrest.
Meanwhile, the local court denied bail to the Minister's brother and instead put him in judicial custody at the district jail to spend time until the entire election process was over.
