Huawei eyes $1.5 bln revenue by year-end

New Delhi, Feb 24 (UNI) Riding the growth wave of telecom sector, Chinese networking equipment maker Huawei Technologies Co is looking at doubling revenue of its Indian arm this fiscal to 1.5 billion dollars.

''We expect the revenue to touch 1.5 billion dollars from last year's 600 million dollars,'' Huawei India Director (Marketing) Lin Yan Qing told UNI.

Huawei is already working with leading Indian telcos like Reliance, Tata, BSNL and MTNL in strategic areas of mobile/IP and fixed networks, GSM/CDMA, broadband, optical, IP/MPLS and terminal devices/CPEs.

''We are looking at getting more projects from these companies.

And as more telecom players roll out services, we are confident of higher growth for the company as well,'' he said.

With the government aiming increased rural telecom penetration, it spells bigger business for suppliers who will get the benefit as more players roll out services.

The total number of telephone connections stood at 281.62 million at the end of January 2008, with 242.4 million wireless subscribers.

''The figures might sound ambitious but we are sure of achieving the targets, given our growth rate of about 200 per cent last year,'' he added.

India contributes about eight per cent to the global revenues.

The company's global reveues stood at 16 billion dollars in 2007 and we are looking at touching 23 billion dollars by this year end, he added.

''The Indian market holds tremendous potential. It is currently the number two market in Asia Pacific. We are looking at India becoming the number one market outside of China in the next three years,'' Mr Qing said.

The compay has on February 22, also completed deployment of its all-IP CDMA solution in the Tata Indicom's commercial network across the country.

The company has three branch offices and eight technical support centers across the country.

Huawei, globally, has formed numerous partnerships with leading companies such as Motorola, IBM, Intel, SUN, Microsoft, Oracle and HP to incorporate the latest technologies.

It also has a joint venture with Siemens which focuses on the research, production, sales and services of TD-SCDMA in order to further advance its development.

A similar partnership exists with Motorola in Shanghai.
