TN doubles subsidised cement allotment
Chennai, Feb 19 (UNI) The Tamil Nadu Government today doubled the allotment of subsidised cement from 200 to 400 bags to middle class families who construct house measuring about 1,000 sq ft.
In a bid to contain the rise in prices of cement, the state government was making available cement at Rs 200 per bag in the state Civil Supplies godowns, after an agreement with private cement manufacturers.
The government initially alloted 100 bags of cement to those who build 1,000 sq ft area of house and later increased it to 200 bags and now doubled the allotment.
An official release here said the poor and middle class people, who want to repair their houses could purchase a minimum of 25 bags. Consumers could buy upto 50 bags of cement by paying cash instead of demand draft, the release said.
Those who build houses with an area of more than 1,000 sq ft, could avail imported cement at the rate of Rs 220 per bag from Chennai and Tuticorin ports, the release said.
