MDMK leader, activists injured in attack
Karur, Feb 19 (UNI) Tension prevailed at Kulithalai town near here as Marumalarchi DMK volunteers resorted to a road roko last night to protest the attack allegedly by the ruling DMKmen against them at a public meeting of the party.
According to MDMK, 15 volunteers, including party propaganda secretary Nanjil Sampath and Kulithalai Municipality vice-chairman M Pallaviraja were injured in the alleged attack at a public meeting by a gang carrying logs and lethal weapons, who came from behind the dais.
The gang also went on a rampage and allegedly damaged some parked vehicles and shops near the meeting venue. ''As police remained a mute spectator to the incident and inordinate delay in the arrival of ambulances, the MDMK activists resorted to a road roko stir,'' party sources claimed.
Mr Sampath, who was rushed to a private hospital at Tiruchirapalli, talking to reporters, alleged that the attack was part of a conspiracy by the ruling party to destroy the MDMK in Tamil Nadu.
Police sources said Kulithalai police station has registered a case and investigation was on in this connection.
