Eight sentenced to life imprisonmemt in murder case

Bangaon, Feb 19 (UNI) Altogether eight people, convicted in a murder case in 2006, were today awarded life imprisonment by the District and Sessions Court in North 24 Parganas of West Bengal.

Additional District and Sessions Judge Asha Arora found the accused guilty of killing CPI(M) and former local committee member Khagen Mondol of Chamta village under Gopalnagar police station.

The prosecution said a group of armed miscreants attacked Mondol and pelted bombs at him on March 27, 2006. Later, Mondol succumbed to his injuries.

Police later arrested the miscreants.

Following one and a half month trial, the court declared all the accused guilty. A fine of Rs 1,000 was also imposed on each of the convicts.
