Doctors in Andaman demand police protection
Port Blair, Feb 19 (UNI) Doctors of the G B Pant Government Hospital in Andaman have demanded police protection as they were ''feeling threatened'' after the recent attack on a surgeon by the relatives of a patient, who allegedly died due to the doctor's negligence.
Sources said on October 17, the patient's relatives manhandled the doctor, alleging negligence on the part of the hospital authorities.
Meanwhile, FIRs had been lodged against the relatives and a meeting, attended by the medical superintendent and Directorate of Health Services Dr N Sadasivan, was held yesterday.
The doctors pressed for a set of demands, including police protection inside the hospital premises, Dr Sadasivan told UNI today.
He said the Health department had been assured by the police that it would set up a base soon inside the hospital.
Police said four relatives of the deceased had been already arrested and further investigation was on in this regard.
