UP cops carry out mock drill following Delhi's high alert
Lucknow, Feb 18 (UNI) Following a high alert in the national capital, Uttar Pradesh police today carried out a mock drill in the capital city to thrawt a possible terror attack.
Police officials said security has been tightened in and around the Amausi airport and the Charbagh railway station. ''Personnel are carrying out anti-sabotage checks and passengers are being frisked,'' said a police official.
The mock drill was carried out following intelligence inputs of a possible terror strike on crowed places.
A number of terrorists belonging to Lashkar-e-Toiba and Harkat-ul-Jehad Islami have been either arrested or killed by police in the state in the last two months. They were involved in the March, 2006 Varanasi bomb blasts, serial blasts in civil court premises in Lucknow, Faizabad and Varanasi and in a conspiracy to kidnap AICC general secretary Rahul Gandhi.
Two LeT operatives, carrying a suicide belt, were killed in an encounter. Maps of areas around Chief Minister Mayawati's residence were recovered from them.
