No fresh mandate needed for Indo-US nuke deal: Cong
New Delhi, Feb 11 (UNI) The Congress today rejected the reported contention of CPI(M) General Secretary Prakash Karat that the UPA government needed a fresh mandate of the people if it wanted to go ahead with implementing the Indo-US nuclear deal.
No fresh mandate was needed, AICC spokesman Abhishek Singhvi told reporters who sought his reaction to Mr Karat's statement made in Kerala earlier in the day.
Mr Singhvi said the CPI(M) should avoid raising the issue in public as a political panel, of which Mr Karat was a member, had been tasked to resolve the differences between the UPA and the Left.
