7 teachers of PTC college detained on rape charges

Patan, North Gujarat, Feb 4 (UNI) Seven teachers of a primary Teachers Training College (PTC) here have been detained by police on charges of raping a Dalit girl student of the college.

The Dalit girl was alleged to have been repeatedly raped by eight teachers of the college, including a former principal, police said.

The incident came to light when the girl got pregnant and a local hospital refused to admit her for abortion. Parents of the girl said she had told them that the teachers had been raping her for quite some time.

The girl also revealed that some other girls, too, have been victimised and raped by the teachers. Parents of other girls gathered at the college and started questioning the teachers.

Some parents turned furious and beat up the teachers and one of the alleged rapist was admitted to a hospital.

Police rushed to the college and were investigating the matter.

An FIR against the accused teachers is expected to be lodged later in the day on completion of initial investigation, a police official said.
