Terai agitation aimed at disrupting polls : Prachanda

Kathmandu, Feb 3 (UNI) Maoist Chairman Prachanda today said that the agitation launched by a number of Madhesi and other ethnic groups in Terai is an attempt to scuttle the April 10 Constituent Assembly elections in Nepal.

Talking to reporters in Nepalgunj, he said agitation in the southern plains continues unabated at behest of the forces opposed to the elections.

The Maoist supremo stated that most of the demands raised by the Madhesi agitators have been fulfilled, and the elected CA would address the remaining ones.

He also disapproved of the remarks of some of the coalition partners that the army could be mobilised to contain violence in the Terai.

The Maoist Chairman added that raising the issue of army mobilisation would not spoil the environment for the polls.

Earlier today, addressing a function in Dang, he said: ''India and a few other international power centers were trying to finish the Maoists.'' UNI XC ARB HT1900
