BJP decries Maya's recommendation for CBI probe into CD issue

Lucknow, Feb 2 (UNI) The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) today protested the Uttar Pradesh government's decision to go for a CBI probe into the BJP's CD episode, which rocked the state during the state assembly elections.

Raising anti-Mayawati slogans, agitation led by UP BJP president Ramapati Ram Tripathi and former leader of opposition in the state Assembly Lalji Tandon staged vociferous protests here.

The agitators were arrested, while they were moving towards Raj Bhawan.

They, however, were later released, police said.

Mr Tripathi said '' Chief Minister Mayawati has recommended CBI probe in the case with a view to appease a particular community.'' According to reports, a large number of BJP activists protested the issue in Kannauj, Unnao, Baghpat, Agra, Faizabad, Barabanki, Kanpur and Gorakhpur.

BJP president Rajnath Singh, Mr Tandon and eight others were among the accused of releasing the controversial CD said to be the tool to instigate communal violence.

On Thursday, Mayawati had announced the government's decision to go for a CBI probe into the BJP's controversial CD episode UNI ATI SP RN2044
