Toll mounts to 25 in spurious liquor case, 3 held
Mumbai, Feb 1 (UNI) The toll in the spurious liquor case at Shardawadi village in Sudhagad taluka in Raigad district of Maharashtra has gone up to 25, with another victim succumbing at Alibaug civil hospital while undergoing treatment late last night.
Meanwhile, three persons have been arrested in this connection, Pali police station sources told UNI.
The accused have been identified as Subhash Ganeshmal Oswal (58), Duttatraya Chandrakant Musle (48) and Vilas Chandrakant Musle (40). They have been remanded to police custody till February 5 by a local court.
The 24 victims include three women. Twenty-eight others are still recuperating in two different hospitals. Sixteen of them have been admitted to the civil hospital at Alibaug, while the rest have been shifted to the J J Hospital here.
The incident occurred on January 30 when the inhabitants of Shardawadi village villagers consumed spurious liquor at a party held to celebrate a marriage proposal of a village boy. The revellers added a substance to the liquor for high intoxication and later complained of stomach pain. The affected people were rushed to the hospital but six of them died on January 30 itself.
