Congress blames Nitish government for power crisis in Bihar

Patna, Jan 31 (UNI) The Congress today blamed the Nitish Kumar government for power crisis in Bihar and said the NDA government had failed to generate power from its generating units despite support from the Centre.

Party MP Nikhil Kumar told reporters here that the Centre had launched Rajiv Gandhi rural electrification scheme to provide power to every household in villages and allocated huge funds for the same.

The state government could not succeed in resuming power generation to its installed capacity in Barunai and Kanti thermal power units,he said adding Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed by the Nitish Kumar government in this regard, had also failed to yield desired results.

''Peak demand of power in the state is 1900 MW while lean hour demand of power is 1300 MW and Central share in this regard is 1140 MW,'' Mr Kumar noted and emphasised that there was no scope for development if power situation continued to remain grim.
