Vaishnavite scholar among two chosen for Sri Sri Madhavdev award
Guwahati, Jan 25 (UNI) Vaishnavite scholar Sonaram Chutia and litterateur Rongbong Terong have been chosen for the prestigious Sri Sri Madhavdev award for 2006 and 2007 respectively.
Informing this at a press conference here today, chairman of the cultural organisation "Sadissa", which gives away the award, Bhupen Bora said the awards were be formally conferred in the later part of February at a function in Bihpuria in Lakhimpur district by Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi.
The annual award, carrying a citation and Rs one lakh, was instituted in 2005 and is given by "Sadissa" in memory of Sri Sri Madhavdeb near the famous scholar's birthplace.
Mr Bora, also the local Legislator, said the award could not be given in 2006 due to certain problems and hence, it would be conferred along with the award for 2007 at the same function. The award was conferred on Khagen Mahanta and Birenendra Nath Dutta in the first year.
