LF govt has failed in Animal Husbandry, Health, Panchayat dept: Cong

Kolkata, Jan 25 (UNI) The West Bengal unit of the Congress today alleged that the CPI(M)-led Left Front government had totally failed in the Animal Husbandry, Health and Panchayat sectors in the state.

Congress leader Manas Bhuiya told newspersons here, ''Nine districts of the state have been affected by bird flu. However, the state goverment has not heeded the serious crisis and has been unable to take any precautions to control the situation.'' He also alleged that the poor people, whose only means of livelihood was the poultry business, were not getting proper compensation after their chickens had been culled.

''If the Maharashtra government had been successful in controlling the bird flu scenario in their state in time, why the West Bengal government has been unable to control it,'' he asserted.

Mr Bhuiya asked the administration to conduct awareness campaigns throughout the state and demanded adequate compensation for the affected poultry owners.
