Coast Guard salvages crashed Helicopter
Port Blair, Jan 24 (UNI) The Indian Coast Guard (CG) today said it has successfully salvaged the 'Chetak' helicopter, which crashed into the Andaman Sea during surveillance on January 21.
The CG ship 'Sagar', with the help of regional Coast Guard Divers, carried out the salvage operation under difficult sea conditions using innovative methods, CG PRO Commandant Akshay Jain told UNI.
The CG sources said a high-level inquiry had also been ordered to ascertain the cause behind the crash.
Senior officers are expected to land here soon to carry out the investigation.
A CG release, however, stressed that the helicopter actually 'ditched' into the sea, which means crashing with a certain degree of control.
''No one was hurt and all crew members were rescued,'' Com Jain added.
