Harassed scribe gets police apology in Andaman

Port Blair, Jan 21 (UNI) The Andaman and Nicobar Police today made a formal apology for harassing a scribe in Andaman islands by snatching his camera and deleting important photographs.

According to reports, on January 19, during the show of Udit Narayan's son Aditya Narayan here, police snatched the camera of Amit Sengupta, a reporter of a national daily, who was covering police action against drunkards at the venue.

''Everything happened because of confusion, he is new to this place and was not wearing any identity card so police personnel snatched his camera but later returned it when he identified himself,'' Ashok Chand, Superintendent of Police, told a delegation of press persons who called up the SP to lodge their protest in this regard. On behalf of the police, Mr Chand also made an apology in this regard.

During the meeting it was also decided to conduct frequent interactions between police officials and press persons in Andamans for better understanding and coordination.

''I hope this kind of incident will not be repeated in these islands again,'' Mr Chand added.
