Police to ensure smooth movement of essential commodities: ADGP
Bangalore, Jan 20 (UNI) The Karnataka Police have made elaborate arrangements for smooth transport of essential commodities and maintenance of law and order in the wake of the strike call given by private transport operators.
An indefinite strike has been called from this midnight by various associations in protest against the Government's rule of fixing speed governors mandatory in private transport vehicles.
In a press release, Additional DGP Shankar Bidiri said the police officials throughout the state had been asked to make an assessment of impact of the strike. They had also been asked to take stringent measures against the association office bearers and members if they indulge in any illegal activity including blocking the traffic.
An amendment to the Motor Vehicles Act had been notified by the state government, making installation of speed governors compulsory in commercial vehicles, including passenger buses and taxi.
