SC to hear Jallikattu case tomorrow

New Delhi, Jan 14 (UNI) The Supreme Court will hear tomorrow the application of the Tamil Nadu government seeking to withdraw the order banning ''Jallikattu''(bullfight) in the state on the eve of Pongal festival.

The state government filed an application on January 12 seeking modification of the order, dated January 11, banning the bullfight known as Jallikattu, which has been described by the apex court as ''barbaric'' and ''inhumane''.

Red chilli powder is put in the eyes of the bull and they are given alcohol called 'arrack'. The Supreme Court had on Friday refused to vacate the stay and had called the 400-year-old practice as barbaric and cruelty towards animals.

The state government in its application has contended that there will be a law and order problem in the state if Jallikattu is not allowed and has prayed to the court to recall its order dated January 11 .

The bench, headed by Chief Justice K G Balakrishnan, will hear the application tomorrow.
