Centre clears three bridges on highways passing through Goa

Panaji, Jan 8 (UNI) The Centre today cleared the construction of three new bridges at Galjibag, Talpon and on Zuari river in Goa as part of third phase of the National Highway Development Project.

Under the project, the 139 km Patradevi-Pollem road, part of the National Highway 17 and Panaji-Belgaon road under NG 4, would be widened/upgraded.

Union Minister of Shipping, Road transport and highways T R Balu informed this to a delegation led by Goa Chief Minister Digambar Kamat, who called on the former in New Delhi today.

The other members of the delegation included PWD Minister Churchill Alemao, members of Parliament Shantaram Naik and Francisco Sardinha and chief secretary J P Singh, among others.

The Rs 1,600 crore package for major district roads and state highways, as well funds for maintenance of national highways, was announced by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh during his recent visit to Goa also figured in the discussion.
