Five killed, seven injured in central Delhi slum fire
New Delhi, Jan 6 (UNI) At least five people were charred to death and seven others critically injured when a devastating fire swept through a slum cluster in central Delhi midnight last night.
A fire services official said the blaze erupted in the jhuggi cluster near Sadar Bazar railway station on the Lahori Gate side at around 0230 hrs.
Hundreds of people were rendered homeless as over 350 jhuggis were gutted in the fire.
The official said the fire services personnel later recovered five bodies, which were completely charred.
He said seven other people were critically injured in the fire and they have been hospitalised.
Several fire tenders were pressed into service to douse the flames.
The cause of the fire was being ascertained.
