F B vows against small car factory : blasts Bhattacharjee

By Staff

Singur, Dec 6 (UNI) The row over industrialization within the ruling Left Front today burst out in the open when the Froward Bloc threatened not to allow the Tatas' small car factory on fertile soil and charged Chief Minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee with 'bluffing and misleading' the coalition partners about land acquisition in Singur.

In a scathing attack that only could be matched by Trinamool Congress chief Mamata Banerjee, Forward Bloc state Secretary Ashok Ghosh also demanded the Government to publish a white paper on everything done for setting up of the factory and warned that the party would never accept the 'sycophancy' of the capitalists, being indulged in by the Chief Minister and his CPI(M) comrades.

The veteran leader, who was one of the founders of the Left Front, virtually questioned the leadership of Mr.Bhattacharjee for the 'frequent crises' during his reign and even criticized CPI(M) patriarch Jyoti Basu for supporting practice of capitalism.

''The Tatas' factory must not come up on the fertile Singur land this is the people's decision. The state Government must ask the Tatas to shift the project in a year to Kalaikunda in West Midnapore district,'' Mr.Ghosh said while addressing a public rally here.

Alleging that it was wrong and an injustice on the part of the government to invite the Tatas to set up industry on the fertile Singur land, the octogenarian leader warned that the future atmosphere for setting up industries in the state would be turn 'horrible' if the small car project was not shifted.

''The Chief Minister and Industry Minister Nirupam Sen gave wrong information and deceived us. The information they provided at the Left Front meeting does not tally with that furnished by the government to the court for the litigation over land acquisition,'' Mr. Ghosh said.

''It was said that all the farmers had willingly given up their plots and most of the land was marshy. If that was so, why police have to take a constant guard of the project site? We demand that the Government immediately publish a white paper letting all know whatever happened in the process of land acquisition,'' he said.

Training his gun at the Chief Minister for the widening divide among the Front partners in recent times, Mr.Ghosh said there were no such differences when Mr.Jyoti Basu was the Chief Minister for about 23 years.

''There was no friction, no difference, no talks about a mini front within the front. One has to think why crises are cropping up during the time of Buddhadeb Bhattcharjee,'' he said.

Pointing at Kerala and Tripura, Mr.Ghosh said never had the governments in those two Left-ruled been servile to the capitalists.

''We can not accept the way Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee is playing a sycophant to them. It is just like what happens in Gujarat and Maharashtra,'' he said.

Reacting to Mr.Basu's recent comment that socialism was a far cry and practicing capitalism was a compulision under the present situation, Mr.Ghosh shot back : ''has Jyoti Babu forgotten his party's commitment to fight against capitalism?''.

He demanded that no red carpet should be rolled out for foreign or big domestic capitalists in the state and the process of industrialization must 'follow the Indian way'.

Mr. Ghosh said the party would hold bipartite meetings with the RSP and CPI on December seven and eight respectively before holding dialogues with the CPI(M) on December ten. ''We shall decide our future course of action only after that,'' he said.
