Miscreants raid treasury, decamp with Rs 2.9 lakh; 3 cops suspended

Bahraich, Jan 5 (UNI) Armed miscreants today raided the district treasury in Hardi area and decamped with Rs 2.9 lakh in cash.

Meanwhile, three policemen, including station officer Prabhakar Pathak had been suspended, Police Superintendent B R Meena said.

According to police, the desperadoes struck around 0300 hrs and locked the home guard and watchman on duty after wounding them.

Later, they fled with the cash.

Following the incident, senior police and district officials reached the spot and took stock of the situation.

At the time of the incident, the cops on duty were reportedly sleeping, sources added.

A case had been registered and a manhunt was launched to nab the culprits.

Some persons were taken into custody for interrogation.
