Bandh Call evokes good response in Mandya

Mandya, Jan 4 (UNI) Mandya bandh call given by Karnataka the Rajya Rytha Sanga, Progressive organisations, Dalitha Sangarasha Samathy demanding remunerative price for sugar cane was evoked good response as all business establishments were closed in the town today.

The city administration have declared holiday for educational institutions. Vehicular traffic on the highway came to a standstill.

The protesters sat on the K R Circle (Sanyaya Circle) condemning the recent lathicharge on farmers and demanded remunerative price for sugarcane and smooth running of sugar factories.

A peaceful protest march was also taken out on the occasion led by Farmer leader Ashok, Sunandajayaram (Women's wing) and Canegrowers Assiciation President Krishna Kumar. A Memorandum was also submitted to the Deputy Commissioner. The agitation will be intensified if farmers demadns were not met, the leaders warned.
