Veteran CPI(M) leader S Thangam passes away

Chennai, Jan 3 (UNI) Veteran CPI(M) leader S Thangam died here last night after a prolonged illness, a party release said today .

He was 70.

The funeral would take place tomorrow.

The state Committee of the party condoled the death of Thangam and recalled the yeoman services rendered by him for the uplift of the downtrodden.

He was one of the founding members of the party and had toiled hard for building the party along with other leaders, V P Chinthan and P R Prameswaran.

He was instrumental in forming an association for the auto drivers and fought for the rights.

Thangam had also served as a member of the CITU.
