Centre to reform Public Distribution System
Thiruvananthapuram, Jan 3 (UNI) The Centre will introduce administrative reforms in the Public Distribution System to step up its efficiency, Union Minister of State for Personnel and Public Grievances Suresh Pachauri said.
Speaking at the inauguration of a two-day regional conference on Excellence in Public Service Delivery at the institute of Management here, he said the real challenge faced by the country was to ensure that the benefits of growth reached the poor and marginalised sections of the society.
Mr Pachauri opined that public service in democracy was not a privilege but legitimately due to the citizens.
The UPA Government was taking efforts to improve service delivery mechanism and transparency in administration, he said.
Pointing out that the government functionaries should speak in the language of the people and officials must be approachable.
State Law Minister M Vijayakumar was present at the conference.
