Rs one crore being spent in Kupwara, once hub of militants
Srinagar, Jan 2 (UNI) Jammu and Kashmir government is spending Rs 1.05 crore for the development and beautification of Kupwara town, once a hub of militants in Nineties.
The beautification programme, under the development of medium and small towns, includes construction of protection 'bund' along the banks of Sogam Nalla, parks, lanes and drains, macadamization of bypass roads, separate Sumo taxi-stand and renovation of link roads, an official spokesman said today.
He said that about Rs 60 lakh have been spent on execution of different development activities under the programme so far.
About 800 solar lights have been distributed among people, in faroff areas of the district and efforts are underway to provide more of these to the deserving.
