Sugar cane foreman murdered

Kolhapur, Jan 1 (UNI) A sugarcane team Mukadam (foreman) was beaten to death at village Takawade near powerloom town Ichalkaranji of this district, police sources today said.

They said the deceased identified as Maulla Mirasaheb Ladkhan(55) had paid an advance of Rs three thousand to a cane labourer Shakil Naikwadi(32) but the latter did not start the job.

Last night, there was a dispute between Ladkhan and Shakil in which the latter and his brother Raju (28) beat up Ladkhan. A seriously injured Ladkhan was rushed to Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital, Ichalkaranji, where he succumbed to his injuries they morning, police sources said.

Both the brothers have been taken into custody, police sources said, adding supporters of Ladkhan went on rampage today and damaged Shakil's house.
