No power cuts this year: Minister

Palakkad, Kerala, Jan 1 (UNI) Kerala Electricity Minister A K Balan today said the state will not face power cuts this year even as temporary load shedding will be imposed for two weeks from tomorrow.

Stating the government was trying to overcome power cut, he told reporters here the Union Government had cut Kerala's share of electricity from the Central Pool.

He also said all Adivasi families in the state would be given free electricity.

The proposal would be discussed with Electricity Regulatory Commission and a decision taken soon.

Moreover, electricity charges of about Rs 60 lakh due from the Adivasis were written off, he added.
