Harish Bhanot passes away
Chandigarh, Jan 1 (UNI) Veteran Journalist and former nominated Councillor of Chandigarh Municipal Corporation Harish Bhanot died here today after a prolonged illness.
His body was cremated at a local cremation ground in the afternoon. People from different walks of life, including journalists and senior functionaries of civil and police administrations of Punjab, Haryana and Chandigarh Administration, attended the cremation.
Mr Opinder Singh Lamba, Deputy Director (Press) to Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal, laid the wreath on the body of Bhanot on behalf of the Chief Minister.
Expressing profound grief and sorrow over the sad demise of Bhanot, Mr Badal in a condolence message said Bhanot was an outstanding journalist who performed his professional duties with utmost dedication, commitment and sincerity.
His death has created a vacuum which was impossible to be filled in, he added.
Mr Badal expressed heartfelt sympathies with the bereaved family and prayed for peace to the departed soul. He also prayed for strength to the bereaved family to bear this irreparable loss.
Information and Public Relations Minister Bikram Singh Majithia, Chief Minister's Media Advisor Harcharan Bains, Information and Public Relations Principal Secretary D S Jaspal and Director Tejveer Singh also mourned the death of the veteran journalist.
