AP celebrates New Year with enthusiasm

Hyderabad, Jan 1 (UNI) People of Andhra Pradesh today celebrated New Year with gaiety and enthusiasm.

Special prayers were performed in temples and midnight mass conducted in churches.

The Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD) made special arrangements for Lord Venkateswara darshan and distributed one lakh 'laddus' to the devotees visiting the temple to mark the occasion.

A large number of people, who thronged the Necklace Road in the city here, exchanged greetings.

Celebrations were held at various places in the city. Pubs, restaurants and hotels in the city were packed with people.

Jeans-and-T-shirt clad youth on motorcycles zipped around the city through the night unmindful of the chill.

At midnight, traffic on all major roads in the city was clogged, with revellers rushing to their favourite hangouts.

Police made elaborate security arragements to check hooliganism and drunken driving. Traffic curbs on the Necklace Road, NTR Marg and Upper Tank Bund proved a big disappointment to revellers.
