5 dead, 4 hurt as van hits lorry in TN

Thanjavur, Tamil Nadu, Jan 1 (UNI) Five people were killed and four seriously injured when a Maruti Omni in car which they were travelling rammed into the rear side of a lorry at Melavasal near Mannargudi in Tiruvarur District of Tamil Nadu early today.

Police said the victims were workers of a private knitting factory at Tiruppur.They were proceeding to their native places in and around Mannargudi to visit their family members for New Year when the tragedy occurred.

The injured have been admitted to the Government Raja Mirasdar Hospital here.
