Students Union to boycott Nepal King's birthday
Kathmandu, July 6: Nepal's eight student unions affiliated to the eight ruling parties, which include Maoists, have appealed to all the concerned groups and individuals to boycott the programmes of the birthday celebrations of the king Gyanendra.
"The king who had been constitutionally suspended had been trying to disrupt the Constituent Assembly elections'" they said in a statement after the joint meeting of the students union.
"The king is conspiring against the spirit of the people's movement to disrupt the polls in the name of birthday celebrations by organising gatherings," they added.
Ambassadors, government officials, major political parties have already decided to boycott the party to be held at the palace.
The students also called on the pro-democratic forces to render futile the conspiracies of the palace.
The students also demanded that the government should not allocate any budget for the palace and said, "The budget, which was being allocated for the palace, should be diverted to education, health and employment."
