We will remove monarchy through polls: Nepal HM

Kathmandu, July 2: Nepal Home Minister Krishna Prasad Sitaula has said as removing the monarchy from parliament before the Constituent Assembly elections will create a conflicting environment, it should be removed through a legal process by the Constituent Assembly itself, state-run media reported.

''Nepali Congress (NC) has already removed monarchy from its 11th convention, it will not be brought back again,'' 'The Rising Nepal' quoted him as saying.

The Home Minister said that ''NC would not bring back monarchy once it has been removed and no one should doubt this''.

The statement of the Home Minister, leader of the Nepali Congress, has come at a time the Nepali Congress party has not made its policy clear about the monarchy though the leaders have said they would go for republic system.

The Nepali Congress had removed monarchy from its statute seeing the conspiracies and activities against NC and democracy by the kings ever since 1950, he said.

He also expressed the determination to take action against all including Maoist YCL or others who sponsor anarchist and violent activities in the country.

Mr Sitaula said the election will be held with the successful understanding between all the parties, and urged all to make an environment for the same.

Election of the constituent assembly is scheduled to be held on November 22 which will decide the future of monarchy in the Himalayan nation.
