Mysore, July 3: Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister B S Yediyurappa was today gheraoed for a brief period by farmers in Mandya, protesting against the release of water from Krishnaraja Sagar reservoir, near here, to Tamil Nadu. Mandya district also witnessed road blockades at several points and protests were held in front of the Command Area Development Authority (CADA) office in Mysore by a group of people, led by Legislator M K Somasekhar, who claimed that the Government had issued directions to the reservoir authorities to release water.

The inflow into the KRS had gone up substantially following copious rains in the catchment area. The protest, however, was withdrawn following an assurance from the CADA authorities.

Mr Yediyurappa, speaking to newspersons here, said the Government had told the authorities to release water from the reservoirs only after the danger level was reached. A meeting of KRS officials would be held soon, he added.

Referring to the flood situation in the State, he said the Government would seek Central relief for rehabilitation of the people affected in the flooded areas.

The Deputy Chief Minister said he was aware of the flood situation in the State and necessary instructions have been given to the Deputy Commissioners of affected districts. The flood relief issue would also be discussed in the Assembly session, commencing on July five.
