K'taka: Cauvery flowing close to danger mark
Mysore, Jul 3: The active Southwest monsoon is showering copious flow in the catchment areas of the Cauvery in Kodagu, Hassan and Mysore districts with the reservoirs witnessing significant rise in the levels.
Heavy rains had brought life virtually to a standstill in Kodagu district, where one farmer died due to wall collapse yesterday. The Cauvery and its tributatories were flowing close to the danger levels, officials said here today.
The Krishnaraja Sagar reservoir, near here had received heavy inflow of 55,625 cusecs and level stood at 97.55 feet today against the maximum level of 124.80 feet, with the release from the reservoir being 13,897 cusecs.
The water level in Hemavathy reservoir in Hassan district, which has been receiving heavy inflows, stood at 2899 feet against 2922 feet of full level. The inflow and release were 35,000 cusecs and 6000 cusecs respectively.
Meanwhile the Kabini reservoir in Mysore district which was just five feet short of maximum level of 2284 feet. The inflow was 31335 cusecs following rains in the catchment area in Wynad in Kerala. the Harangi reservoir was also reaching towards danger mark of 2859 feet. With level reading today 2844.66 feet with inflow of 4728 cusecs.
In Mysore district, the Lakshmanathirtha river was spate and flooded water entered into the agricultural fields damaging the standing crops. The Hunsur taluk the district incharge minister G T Deve Gowda visited the areas and asked the taluk administration take necessary steps to asses the damages immediately.
