Nagaland: Rio instructs DCs for fair electoral rolls
Kohima, Jun 29: In view of the forthcoming Assembly Elections in Nagaland, Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio has ordered fair and just revision of electoral rolls to avoid criticism from political parties as well as the public.
Addressing a conference of the Deputy Commissioners(DCs), who are also the Returning Officer for elections here yesterday, Mr Rio said that as the Returning Officers and Sector Magistrates, the DCs must keep proper watch over their respective areas to ''effectively counter all false propaganda and rumours that might vitiate the otherwise peaceful atmosphere in the state.'' He also urged the DCs to check the menace of irregular attendance of government employees, especially in the outer districts by advising them to be more vigilant and conduct surprise checks from time to time.
Mr Rio also highlighted on the fact that with the advent of the 21st century, new challenges have been thrown up, which has resulted in the changing patterns and complexity in crimes, increase in terrorist activities and violence. He also observed that there was a demand for more professional competent agencies of the government at all levels.
