HC stays arrest of Sacha Sauda head till August 6
Chandigarh, June 29: The Punjab and Haryana High court today stayed the arrest of Dera Sacha Sauda head Gurmeet Ram Raheem Singh till August six in the case registered against him at Bathinda under section 295 A of the IPC last month.
Vacation Judge, Justice L N Mittal passed this order on a petition filed by the Dera head here.
While passing the order, the Court ordered the Dera chief to surrender his passport to the court.
Meanwhile a court in Bathinda today handed over a copy of the non bailable arrest warrant issued against Ram Raheem to the District Attorney. The warrant is returnable to the court till July one.
Chief Judicial Magistrate A L Kichi handed over the arrest warrant after the District Attorney had presented a copy of the order of the government giving sanction to the Punjab Police to arrest the Dera head in the case which was registered last month on the complaint of a Bathinda resident. Under the case, the Dera head has been charged with hurting the sentiments of a community.
The state government had given its sanction for the arrest on Wednesday night. Government sanction is a must in any case registered under section 295 A of the IPC.
