Yet another infiltration bid foiled in JK
Srinagar, June 27: Troops guarding the Line of Control (LoC) in Jammu and Kashmir foiled yet another infiltration bid by militants from across the border.
Official sources said troops of 20 J and K rifles noticed a group of militants sneaking into this side at Changnar in Mahil sector.
When challenged and asked to surrender, the militants opened fire.
The fire was returned but the militants managed to escape under the cover of darkness and thick forest.
Later, during search of the area, troops recovered some arms and ammunition, including one pistol, three magazines, one satellite phone, one ak 56 rifle cleaning rod and some woollen cloths.
This was the third infiltration attempt from across the border by militants in north Kashmir during the past one week. In earlier two attempts eight infiltrators and a soldier were killed.
Officials said that infiltration from across the border has increased this year after melting of snow on the higher reaches.
They said a large number of militants are waiting in different launching camps near the border, waiting for an opportunity to cross over to this side.
About 50 militants and their family members have also surrendered after their return from PoK during the past one year.
