Prez poll: Kalam to meet UNPA leaders on June 20
Chennai, June 19: President A P J Abdul Kalam has granted an appointment to the leaders of the newly-launched United National Progressive Alliance (UNPA) at 1530 hrs tomorrow, after they requested a meeting to persuade him to seek election for a second term.
AIADMK General Secretary J Jayalalithaa, one of the architects of the alliance, would go to Delhi tomorrow, along with other Front leaders, to meet Dr Kalam, a party release here said today.
The UNPA, at its conclave here yesterday, favoured a second term for Dr Kalam and appealed to leaders of all parties in the country to support his candidature and avoid a contest for the top post in the interest of the country.
Samajwadi Party leaders Mulayam Singh Yadav and Amar Singh, Telugu Desam Party President N Chandrababu Naidu, Indian National Lok Dal leader Om Prakash Chauthala and MDMK General Secretary Vaiko, among other leaders, were likely to accompany Ms Jayalalithaa.
