PIL filed seeking CBI probe into Big B's land deal

Lucknow, June 8: A public interest litigation (PIL) was filed today at the Lucknow bench of the Allahabad High Court seeking a CBI probe into the various agricultural lands purchased by mega star Amitabh Bachchan.

The PIL, filed by Jagdish Shukla, is likely to come up for hearing on Monday.

Shukla told sources over phone that the PIL had sought a CBI probe into the farming land purchased by the mega star in Barabanki district of the state and in Pune, Maharashtra.

''Since the matter involves more than one state, I have sought a CBI probe into the land deals as well as against the various government officials involved in helping him get the land,'' he added.

Shukla has made the Union of India, the CBI as well as the UP government as parties in his PIL.

Yesterday, the Allahabad High Court had reserved its order on the maintainability of Bachchan's writ petition challenging the order of Faizabad Additional Commissioner declaring as illegal allotment of a farming land to him at Daulatpur village in Barabanki district of the state.

A Lucknow Division Bench, comprising Devi Prasad Singh, reserved its order after hearing both the parties.

On Tuesday, Bachchan had moved the HC seeking respite in the matter. His counsel Gaurav Bhatia had filed the writ on his behalf.

Citing violation of rules in the revenue record entry, Faizabad Division Additional Commissioner Vidyasagar Prasad had quashed the order of former Barabanki District Magistrate Ramashankar Sahu alloting farming land to 'Big B'.

Earlier, Barabanki DM Ashish Kumar Goyal had also scrapped the allotment to the actor by his predecessor Sahu.

The actor's petition claimed that the Commissioner's order had transgressed his jurisdiction and Bachchan was not given an opportunity to be heard.
