Nepal government flays attack on US ambassador

Kathmandu, May 26: The Nepal Government today expressed concern over the inhuman act meted out against United States Ambassador to Nepal James F Moriarty at eastern Nepal.

Stones were pelted at his vehicle, while he was heading to the Damak-based local Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights (UNHCR) following his inspection visit to the 'Bhutanese Refugees' Camp in Jhapa yesterday.

''Directives have been issued to the local Administration to take action against those involved in such acts against the diplomatic norms'', a statement released by Nepalese Home Ministry here said.

The Government of Nepal is committed to take stern action against the individuals involved in the incident, adds the statement.

Workers of Maoists affiliated Young Communist League pelted stones at the ambassador's vehicle.

He was not injured in the incident, however his car was slightly damaged, it is said.
